Love is a Fallacy: The Summary

Have you read the story “Love is a Fallacy” by Max Schuilman? Well, if you haven’t read it yet, here’s a summary:

The story is set in one of the Universities in the United States of America. It is about a guy who wanted to have this girl named Polly. Polly was a beautiful girl, inside and out. Polly by then was dating the main character’s friend and roommate, Petey. At first Petey wanted a raccoon coat because all of the Big Men or should I say the well known people in their school were wearing raccoon coats. He was dying to have one of these raccoon coats. That was when the narrator and main character thought of a way wherein he could give his friend the simple thing he wanted and that he could have Polly. They made a deal with each other that if he finds a raccoon coat, Petey would do anything in return. After their discussion and deal, the narrator set off to his home to spend the weekend where he remembered that his father had one of those coats that Petey was dying to have. He found the coat in one of the trunks in their house and then placed it in his bag ready for him to give to Petey.

When he returned to school after the weekend, he showed Petey the raccoon coat and asked for the thing in return. Petey was kind of shocked by what his friend wanted. He wanted to have Petey’s girl, Polly. He had second thoughts looking at the raccoon coat and away for it but at last, after thinking several times, he agreed to what his roommate wanted. The next day, the main character asked Polly out. He knew that Polly was bit a slow learner. He proved this fact when they dated. He brought her to a restaurant and the only thing she said was that the food was marvelous. He brought her to the cinema and all she said was that the movie was terrific. This was when he thought of a way wherein he could teach Polly some things he had known in their class in logic, fallacies. They had sessions every night under an oak tree and after some time, he told Polly what he really felt. To his surprise, Polly used all the things she learned about fallacies just to tell him that she never liked him. He argued with her so many times but then, he couldn’t do anything. At last, she said that she liked Petey. He was in a rage and asked why she liked Petey. That not so smart guy when he was far better than him. All she said was because Petey had one of these raccoon coats.

The End of the Summary

Hope you learned something in the story “Love is a Fallacy”. It sure was something that’s worth to read. Fallacies or false ideas are just some of the things you get to learn when loving someone. Love is sometimes a fallacy especially when you just love because you want to. But love is a decision you make. Sometimes it can hurt you; sometimes it can make you happy. Just be sure that when you love there are no other people that you can hurt or step on so that it will be an easy journey. Whether love is a fallacy or not, make sure that you pour love over the people around you!!! < = )
